WWF presents its environmental conservation strategy for Mexico
The World Wide Fund for Nature plasma its actions to protect national biodiversity, promote equitable and sustainable use of natural resources.
To meet the expectations of the WWF 10 years, the current scene was shown in our country, which face a crisis that is expected to mediate between two and three decades. The WWF fixed his eyes on Mexico because it is the fourth country with the highest biodiversity and ecosystem biodiversity second, hence the interest in protecting the ecosystem and biodiversity.
“Connecting people with nature and nature with people, and join efforts with our partners and allies in civil society, ejidos and indigenous communities, government and the private sector, with whom we are committed to strengthening capacities, innovate , promote social participation, generate synergies, channeling new and additional financial resources, and clearly communicate our results. “said Omar Vidal.
Marco Lambertini emphasized the importance of nature in the life of man and his dependence on this, where there is a problem for conservation. However, the science is clear in providing solutions in support of the environment, and quoted Octavio Paz “Defender of nature, is to defend men.”
Bruce Babbitt stressed that the world of nature cuts across borders as they do men, which exemplified the monarch butterfly travels from Canada, the United States to reach Mexico and is at risk for the destruction of agodoncillo in different regions.
Ezequiel Ezcurra gave us the panorama of Mexico, their main problems from the loss of forests by deforestation of the seventies, when the National Commission Desmontes was to use spaces in agricultural fields and pastures. However, we continue to lose forests; seas and coasts suffer from pollution, there is a rapid decline of fisheries; the destruction of mangroves and coasts; and present water crisis.
All these measures have altered the global change, which presents extreme climatic oscillations as droughts, sea level rise, floods, frost and heat outbreaks in different regions of the country.
In response to all the challenges, the actions of the WWF in Mexico, has encouraged the appointment of Natural Protected Areas in Oaxaca, a state with high biodiversity; the protection of the monarch butterfly against illegal logging; fire fighting in the Sierra Tarahumara; in conjunction with the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) create the ecological flow in rivers and wetlands, now known as water reserves to protect rivers and aquifers, contaminated.
In our country, 127 species have become extinct and 2605 are at risk, at different levels of threat. Faced with the problem, the WWF seeks to preserve a sustainable habitat for species and humans through the recovery of three marine endangered species and three terrestrial, generate five runners to protect the Lacandona Jungle, Chimalpas, Sierra Costera, Sierra Tarahumara and the Monarch Butterfly Reserve.
Reduce the ecological footprint of meat, milk and fish food products with high impact on biodiversity, ecohydrological to increase the resistance of species and communities by climate change connectors.
